Next Gen Birders - Birds & Brews
Register here: https://www.mobilize.us/audubon-chapters/event/931133/
Tired of birding solo or feeling like the youngest person on the trail? Whether you’re a "hardcore" lister or you just think owls are cool, come hang out with the Next Gen Birders for our very first Birds & Beers event!
Kitsap Audubon is launching this series specifically for the 20s, 30s, and "young-at-heart" crowd. No gatekeeping, no pressure—just a low-key evening to meet other nature-loving locals, grab a drink, and see what’s flying around Silverdale.
📍 The Game Plan: The Golden Hour Walk (5:00 PM): We’re meeting at the Clear Creek Trail in Silverdale. We’ll take a casual sunset stroll through the wetlands to spot some Great Blue Herons, Wood Ducks, and whatever else is active. It’s the perfect "decompress after work" vibe.
The After-Party: Once the light fades, we’re heading over to Silver City Brewery to snag a table. We’ll talk shop, swap trail recommendations, and actually get to know the local birding community over a pint.
📋 The Lowdown:
When: Friday, April 3rd @ 5:00 PM
Where: Clear Creek Trail (Silverdale) — Meeting at the Silverdale Rotary Park, 11601 Silverdale Way NW, Silverdale, WA 98383
Who: Geared toward young adults (20s/30s), but open to any bird-curious folks.
All Ages Walk: The trail portion is open to everyone.
21+ for Brews: While the walk is all-ages, the social at Silver City Brewery is 21+ for alcohol. (They have solid non-alcoholic options and food, too!)

Great Backyard Bird Count
Each February, for four days the world comes together to admire birds during the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). Participants spend time in their favorite places observing and counting as many birds as they can find and report their findings. This helps scientists better understand global bird populations. We hope you'll join us this year!
Facts About GBBC
The event began in 1998 as an annual bird count in North America and runs each February.
A February count allows for a snapshot of birds right before one of their annual migrations.
In 2013, GBBC became an international event and data was collected using eBird.
Data from GBBC accumulates in the eBird database. Each year more than 100 scientific publications use eBird data for conservation.

Field Trip: Port Washington Narrows and Kitsap Lake
Join John & Karla Bouck, leaders for a field trip to Port Washington Narrows and Kitsap Lake. A surprising variety of marine birds winter in these protected waters. We will explore Washington Narrows from Lions Park, Lower Rota Vista Park, and Kitsap Lake with perhaps a doughnut stop along the way. Kitsap Audubon supports Lower Rota Vista Park at the end of Elizabeth Avenue. This charming park offers exceptional views of a unique colony of Pelagic cormorants. Kitsap Lake is often birdy and may have surprises this time of year.
